Insulating A Home To Keep Cool

Often when we think of insulating a home our thoughts are drawn to cold winter days and keeping warm inside. However when thinking about your home, whether building, renovating or buying a home it is also important to keep in mind that insulation is also there to keep you cool and comfortable during the heat of summer.

All walls, roof areas and floors need to be competently insulated and sealed to enable the effect of insulation to be felt, stopping warm air transferring through gaps and missing areas of insulation. This will keep your home from over heating on hot days and minimise the need for any mechanical cooling such as air conditioning systems.

It is very important to remember though, that there are 5 principles in Passive House construction with Thermal insulation being one of them. and All 5 principles need to be included in the building process to achieve Passive House standards of comfort, energy efficiency and health.
